Instagram Hits 400M Users Just 9 Months After Announcing 300M
Today, Facebook-owned photograph-centric social network Instagram announced that it has hit 400 million users. This comes just nine months after announcing that it hit the 300 million mark. In the battle of the social networks Instagram has just dealt a significant blow to its rivals.The photo sharing app has announced it now has more than 400 million users who post around 80 million images every day.
This means the site has leapfrogged Twitter, which had 316 million users at the last count, and makes it more popular than Pinterest and Snapchat.
Instagram said: 'When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream. While milestones like this are important, what really excites us is the way that visual communication makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us.'
It continued that more than 75 per cent of its users now live outside of the US and among the last 100 million members to join, more than half live in Europe and Asia. The countries that added the most Instagrammers include Brazil, Japan and Indonesia.
'Instagrammers continue to capture incredible photos and videos from all corners of the earth (and even the solar system),' added Instagram. 'We’ve seen inspiring moments like the first surface image of Pluto and Champions League celebrations, as well as striking locales like the white pools of Turkey and a Namibian desert ghost town
